The Forum with Fatimatu Abubakar
Speaking on Asaase Radio’s The Forum, Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar noted that recent elections have focused more on ideas and issues rather than divisive rhetoric.
“We are witnessing a maturation of our democratic process,” she said, adding that “the citizenry now demands policies, plans and measurable outcomes, not just personalities or slogans.”
She emphasised that the role of government communication must align with this shift: “As the Ministry of Information, we must move away from mere announcements towards engagement, consultation, transparency and creating spaces for citizens to hold us to account.”
Pressing the need for professional media and strong public institutions, she warned that “introducing competing voices without integrity is not progress — it must be coupled with credibility, facts and standards.”
On youth participation, she stated: “Young people are not only witnessing the processes — they are driving them. They must be supported with information, platforms and opportunities to influence policy.”
She concluded: “If we continue to channel conversations into substance rather than sound‑bites, Ghana will deepen its democracy and build stronger governance frameworks.”
The episode of The Forum was moderated by Asaase Radio and aired on Thursday.
